There is not one child in Israel that doesn't know and love this dish. But ptitim on their own are boring. As a child, I remember always asking my mom to make me an extra dish of red ptitim of shabbat - no matter what the main dish was! So I give to you the recipe for red ptitim that will freshen up your plate with great colors and great taste!

Ingredients
- 2 1/2 cups of your favorite type Ptitim
- 2 3/4 cups Boiling water
- 200 grams 2 small boxes Tomato paste
- 1 medium Onion
- Per taste don't be shy! Salt
- Per taste Ground Black Pepper
- Per taste Red Paprika
- 3 Tablespoons Canola Oil
Instructions
- Chop the onions
- In a large, flat pan, heat up the oil
- Fry the onions until it becomes clear
- Add the ptitim and fry (whilst mixing) for around 2 minutes
- Add the boiling water, tomato paste, spices and mix well
- Lower the flame to medium/low and close the lid on saucepan
- Cook for 7 minutes
- Open, mix, close again (partially close - not fully!) and cook for another 5 minutes on a low heat
- Turn off the flame - lift the lid, mix the ptitim with a wooden spoon so they dont stick to each other and then close the lid for another 3 minutes
- There you have it....super delicious red ptitim!
